Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God
Pastor Matt Hagee has learned the blessings of submission under the mentorship of his father, Pastor John Hagee.
Pastor Matt calls him “Dad,” but he also calls him “Pastor.” As a son, he might disagree with his dad, but he has never disagreed with Pastor John, his spiritual authority. He recognizes that, if he chooses to move from underneath that cover, he stands alone.
He began to understand the importance of submission when he was 17 years old. Pastor John asked him to prepare his first sermon. For months, the young Matt poured all his energy into preparation. He could not wait for his father to look over his 38-page masterpiece.
Soon, 36 of those pages were lying on the floor covered in red ink. On the remaining two pages, four lines remained, and the rest were marked out. Pastor John said, “Everything that’s all over that floor, it came out of you. If you’ll take the time to dig in to God’s Word and tell others what He says, they’ll come from all over the world to hear you.”
Pastor Matt had a choice to make. He could have complained about starting his sermon over again. Instead, he listened to the still, small voice of God and chose to submit to the spiritual authority God placed over him. He looked at his father and said, “Dad, I don’t know what to do. But if you show me, I’ll do it.”
Blessing:
May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. May you always humble yourself to submit to the authorities that God places over you. As you do so, may you experience His blessing, never His judgment. In the name of Jesus…amen.
