RUNNING THE RACE SET BEFORE YOU

Hebrews 12:1-2

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

In our walk with God, we need to take the posture of someone running a race; someone who has a goal and a target and is passionate about winning. Apostle Paul said, “Surely you know that many runners take part in a race, but only one of them wins the prize. Run, then, in such a way as to win the prize. Every athlete in training submits to strict discipline, to be crowned with a wreath that will not last; but we do it for one that will last forever. That is why I run straight for the finish line; that is why I am like a boxer who does not waste his punches. I harden my body with blows and bring it under complete control, to keep myself from being disqualified after having called others to the contest,” (1Cor.9:24-27, GNB). Our zeal and passion for this race, also motivates us to lay aside every weight and the sin that easily besets us. Jesus redeemed us so we would be zealous of good works, (Tit.2:14). How is your zeal for good works?

The race set before us is growing into the fullness of Christ and being everything that Christ is, (Eph.4:11-15, Rom.8:29). This is why Apostle Paul’s greatest desire was to know Christ and press into His fullness, (Phil.3:10-14). This is what makes us grow spiritually, live right and do exploits for God; which we will receive great rewards for when Christ returns, (Rev.22:12). We shall receive the fullness of His glory.
