SEEING GOD’S CHARACTER THROUGH JESUS
January 26, 2025
From a sermon by Bryant Wright, Founder, RFTH
“Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father?’”
John 14:9
What is God like?
This question has puzzled people through the ages. Some view God as an angry old man waiting to punish us for every mistake. Others see Him as a distant, uninvolved figure who set the world in motion but has little to do with it now. Yet the Bible gives us a much clearer picture of what God is like. In John 14:9, Jesus says, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.” If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus.
As Colossians 1:15 tells us, Jesus is the image of the invisible God. He perfectly reflects God’s character. When you read about Jesus in the Gospels, you see a man who embodies God’s grace, justice, truth, and love. His actions show God’s heart. Whether He was healing the sick, feeding the hungry, or reaching the lost, Jesus gave us a living example of who God is.
Jesus came to break the misconceptions about God. He came to invite us into a relationship with Him.
When we see Jesus’ compassion, we see God’s compassion.
When we see Jesus’ love, we see God’s love.
In your life, you may have moments where you wonder if God is far off or disinterested. When those doubts creep in, remember Jesus. Remember the God who walked among us, healed the broken, and laid down His life for our salvation. That is the God who loves you and desires to know you personally.
To see the character of God, look at His Son.
