Memorise: “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.” – 1 Corinthians 9:25
Read: 1 Corinthians 9:24-27
24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
Bible In One Year: Psalm 90-92, Romans 11:1-21
MESSAGE:
An attribute needed by the person that will please God is self control. If you are told not to put on the television for example and you begin to throw tantrums, then you have no self control. If you are reading and you hear your phone beep, then you pick it up to see the message and find yourself browsing through social medial for the next 30 minutes, then you have no self control.
Just like every athlete needs to be disciplined to succeed in any game, without self control, nobody can succeed at anything. You need to be able to control yourself to read when others are gesting. You need self control concerning your crush on that boy/girl because you know dating is not good. Control your tongue, control your eyes, control your thoughts, control your feelings. If you cannot put yourself under control, the devil will use the things around to control you. Proverbs 25:28 says that anyone that cannot control himself is like a city without walls; all sorts of junk will find rest inside such a person.
Prayer Point:
Father, give me the grace to have self control.
Hymn 6
- Our God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home: - Under the shadow of your throne
Your saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is your arm alone,
And our defense is sure - Before the hills in order stood
Or earth received its frame,
From everlasting you are God,
To endless years the same. - A thousand ages in your sight
Are like an evening gone
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun. - Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Soon bears us all away;
We fly forgotten, as a dream
Does at the opening day. - Our God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Still be our guard while troubles last,
And our eternal home!
