SONGS OF VICTORY

2Chronicles 20:17-18

Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you. And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.

After Jehoshaphat and the children of Israel prayed unto God concerning the threat from the armies of three different nations, God sent His word of victory to them as we see in our text above. Immediately they received this word, they began to worship, sing and praise God with a loud voice. The next day, Jehoshaphat got singers to go before the Israelite army and they all began to sing and say, “…Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth forever,” (2Chron.20:21). As they sang and praised God, the Lord made the armies of the three different nations to attack and fight themselves until they were all destroyed. The Israelites then spent three whole days gathering the wealth of these three different nations, (2Chron.20:25).

Now, God did not give the Israelites victory because of the songs they were singing unto Him. The Israelites were singing because by His word, God told them that He had given them victory. They were singing songs of victory by faith in God’s word. Similarly, we don’t sing or praise God so that He will give us victory or do anything for us. We sing because God has already given us victory and done great things for us through Christ. We sing to remind ourselves of God’s goodness and to remind ourselves that we have the victory. As we sing and celebrate our victory, we experience a manifestation of our victory.

Action Point:
Rejoice and thank God for the victory He has given you in Christ. Sing a song of victory right now.
