Memorise: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15
Bible Reading: 2 Timothy 2:14-18
- Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
- Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
- But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
- And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
- Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
Bible Reading In One Year: Ecclesiastes 1-3; 2 Corinthians 9:1-15
MESSAGE:
God made the body such that it needs food to grow. You can’t eat once in a week and expect to grow well. It is the same with the spirit. You can’t read your Bible once in a week and expect to be healthy spiritually, also, you cannot eat physical food and expect it to make you grow spiritually. No wonder Jesus told Satan:
“But He answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” – Matthew 4:4
If there was anyone who knew the word of God, it was Jesus. In fact, He is the Word of God (John 1:1). From childhood, He would sit in the temple and teach the scholars the word. Yet, Satan came to tempt Him using the word of God. This shows that you have to do an in-depth study of the word of God always so that you don’t get swayed by the devil. Don’t be satisfied with the sermons you hear on Sundays. Don’t be satisfied with what you read in this devotional every day. Do a personal study and allow the Holy Spirit interpret the word to you.
Key Point:
Don’t suffer from spiritual kwashiorkor, feed on the word of God.
Hymn: When We Walk With The Lord
- When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way,
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Chorus:
Trust and obey,
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.
- Not a shadow can rise,
Not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away,
Not a doubt or a fear,
Not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey. - Not a burden we bear,
Not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay,
Not a grief nor a loss,
Not a frown nor a cross,
But is blest if we trust and obey. - But we never can prove
The delights of His love,
Until all on the altar we lay,
For the favour He shows,
And the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey. - Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way,
What He says we will do,
Where He sends, we will go,
Never fear, only trust and obey.
