BIBLE READING: 2 Samuel 7-9

TEXT: “He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD”. Psalms 112 :7

Rhema for Living 8 April 2022 Devotional MESSAGE

One of the prerequisite for running the race set before you is that you stay on your lane. Just like in the sport race you maintain your lane so as not to be disqualified.

Your identification number is different from another. Your destiny assignment is unique and different. So why leave your lane to run on another’s? Why make another’s task your discussion all day? If you are running with your goals set before you, you will be too busy to notice others who are not running.

And since you are not, your attention is now on others, such a fruitless assignment with no pay. In tournaments only those assigned as referees are paid, so also in every aspect of life. Why then engage your life in a venture with no profit but shame? Yield to the counsel of scripture in 1 Thessalonians 4 :11; which says, “And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you”.

In 2 kings 2; the sons of the prophet left their purpose of being sons to a prophet of that capacity and focused on Elisha a man with definite purpose trying to distract him. If they were purposeful sons under such an anointed man, they would have referred to him as ‘our master’ but rather they said to Elisha, “… Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day?…” vs 3.

They knew they were not servants that only Elisha was, hence they spoke that way to him behind the prophet. But Elisha a man sensitive to divine purpose did not give them attention because what he was seeking for requires his full attention. No wonder despite the condition the master gave him, he got his request for a double portion of his master’s spirit.

When he had gotten his heart desire, the same sons of the prophet who would have distracted him from getting his heart desire, bowed to him when they saw him saying, “The Spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha”.

Be careful not to be distracted on your way to achieving purpose.

PRAYER: My Father! My Father! As I begin to pray now, I frustrate every distraction on my way to achieving purpose.
