“They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt;“ – Psalm 106:21
The children of Israel seemed to have their own way as they demanded that Aaron make gods to lead them.
As Aaron made the calf for them, they must have thought that God had started a new religion that involved idol worship.
The Israelites revelled in their new religion assuming that God had approved of them because of Aaron’s involvement.
But they were not in the will of God even though God’s man seemed to have led them. It was not long before they reaped the punishment of being in the imperfect will of God.
“They made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image.
Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass.
They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt; Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea.
Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them” (Psalms 106:19-23).
