SUBMIT ONE TO ANOTHER

“Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.” Ephesians 5:21 (KJV)

Many men are quick to quote Ephesians 5:22 “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.” Forgetting that before verse 22 was verse 21 which says, “submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of the Lord” Submission is not a one-way traffic. Yes, God expects the man to take responsibility as the head of the home, but in taking responsibility, see your wife as your partner, you are co-labourers in the home.

To submit means to defer to, to yield, to give in, to agree to another. Submission is not a sign of weakness, if anything, it is a sign of strength. To submit is to willingly let the other person have the right of way. As the man, you do not have to be right all the time and the same goes to the woman and the children too. Let the person with the superior argument carry the day. It is not a win or lose situation. No one loses, we all win when the idea brings in the right result.

Everyone has a role to play in the home and we are together to complement each other. It is not about who earns the most or who has the more lucrative job. When you learn to submit one to another, you create the right atmosphere to raise godly children. Don’t forget you are the first evangelist to those children. Children learn more by what they see than what they hear. Don’t put your children in a situation where they lie to cover up for you when they are with their friends in school or church. Show them the love of Christ by the way you love your spouse. Let them see your marriage as an example that they will desire to be like. Be exemplary.

It is my prayer that your home will be an example of that of a believer that will minister to the world around just by observing your home in Jesus’ name.
