Submit yourself to the cleansing power of God’s Word

Ephesians 5:25-27 (NLT), John 15:3 (KJV, TPT, GNB)
For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word. He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. *Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. *The words I have spoken over you have already cleansed you. *You have been made clean already by the teaching I have given you.

There is a very interesting story in 2Kings 5 about what happened when Naaman needed to be cured of his leprosy. Through a young Israelite maid that served his wife, Naaman got to know that he could be healed of his leprosy if he could visited a prophet of God in Samaria. When Naaman arrived Samaria, Elisha sent a message to him telling him to go and wash himself seven times in the river Jordan. Naaman became angry and he was not willing to do this.

First of all, he was expecting Elisha to come out and do some acrobatic displays over him and secondly he felt there were better rivers he could was in than the river Jordan, (2Kings 5:11-12). After being convinced by his servants, Naaman eventually went down to the river Jordan and dipped himself into the water seven times. When he was through, his flesh became as that of a little child and he was completely cleansed and healed.

The river Jordan in this story is a symbol of God’s Word (the revelation of the gospel of Christ) that we need to consistently deep ourselves into in order to experience God’s cleansing and healing power in our lives. Instead of simply giving themselves to God’s Word, some people prefer to engage in all manner of gymnastics and sacrifices and they will rather give themselves to other more enticing knowledge or high sounding wisdom. They feel God’s Word is too simple and as such, not powerful enough to transform their lives. No matter how simple or foolish the preaching of the gospel of Christ may sound, the Bible says Christ is the wisdom and power of God, (1Cor.1:21-24). Everything God does, He does through Christ – His Word, (John 1:1-3). Give yourself more to the revelation of Christ. Let the revelation of Christ dwell in you richly.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I desire to experience the cleansing power of your word in my life. Please help me to give myself more to the revelation of Christ.
