Summer Garden Tour—Eden

JULY 4, 2020

The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed.
Genesis 2:8

 Recommended Reading: Revelation 22:1-5

When you see lists of the greatest gardens in the world, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is often near the top. Its 52 acres have 14,000 types of plants. One moment you’re in a garden Shakespeare would have loved; the next moment you’re in an exquisite Japanese garden with 200 cherry trees. There’s a rock garden, a desert pavilion, a bonsai museum, a fragrance garden, and a celebrity path with stepping stones dedicated to famous people from Brooklyn.

But even the most beautiful gardens on earth are only a pale imitation of the most beautiful garden of all time—the Garden of Eden—the “garden of God” (Ezekiel 31:9).

When we think of all we’ve lost because of sin, we grieve. But compare the first two chapters of the Bible with the last two! The city of New Jerusalem has the same elements as Eden—gold, jewels, rivers, the tree of life, and the presence of the Lord. The heart of heaven is a vast garden city—New Jerusalem—paradise restored. Hallelujah!

Jesus, the true Adam…the Seed who crushed the serpent’s head (Genesis 3:15), will not fail to lead us into all that God is preparing for us—a home even better than Eden.
