MEMORISE: And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. Luke 4:4

Read: Luke 4:1-13

  1. And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
  2. Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.
  3. And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.
  4. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
  5. And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
  6. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
  7. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.
  8. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
  9. And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:
  10. For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:
  11. And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
  12. And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
  13. And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.

Bible In One Year: Micah 4-5; Revelation 11:1-19

MESSAGE:

The devil is a toothless bulldog. He can only bark but he cannot bite. He can be tough, but he will never succeed against you if you are in Christ. If Jesus Christ could defeat the devil when he died and resurrected on the third day, then as a joint heir with Christ, the devil has no power over you. However, don’t be quiet and lenient with the devil otherwise, he will overcome you.

Know that the word of God is an important weapon for every child of God to counter the tricks of the devil. Therefore, study the word and know how to use it. Also, do not joke with Sunday school and Bible study; ensure you attend these programmes regularly and punctually. Most importantly, memorize Bible verses so that you can talk back at the devil whenever he comes to you. The devil understands the importance of the relationship between you and your heavenly Father. So he will try his best to separate you from Him by bringing unrighteous thoughts to you; he might tell you that you are a liar and God doesn’t love you because of the sins you committed in the past. My child, whenever the devil comes with negative thoughts, counter him with the word of God. Let him know who you are in Jesus Christ.

Key Point:
How much of the word have you committed to your memory?

Hymns: When We Walk With The Lord

  1. When we walk with the Lord
    In the light of His word,
    What a glory He sheds on our way!
    While we do His good will,
    He abides with us still,
    And with all who will
    trust and obey.

Chorus:
Trust and obey! For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

  1. Not a shadow can rise,
    Not a cloud in the skies,
    But His smile quickly
    drives it away;
    Not a doubt nor a fear,
    Not a sigh nor a tear,
    Can abide while we trust
    and obey.
  2. Not a burden we bear,
    Not a sorrow we share,
    But our toil He doth
    richly repay;
    Not a grief nor a loss,
    Not a frown nor a cross,
    But is blest if we trust
    and obey.
  3. But we never can prove
    The delights of His love,
    Until all on the altar we lay,
    For the favour He shows,
    For the joy He bestows,
    Are for them who will
    trust and obey.
  4. Then in fellowship sweet
    We will sit at His feet,
    Or we’ll walk by His side
    in the way;
    What He says we will do,
    Where He sends we will go;
    Never fear, only trust and
    obey.
