TEST ALL SPIRITS

1John 4:1-3

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist,….

There are two basic ways we can know false ministers, despite the kind of manifestations of the supernatural or other results they may have. Remember that Jesus said many people will say they prophesied in His name, cast out devils and did many wonderful works in His name but He will ask them to depart from Him because He never knew them and they were workers of iniquity, (Matt.7:21-23). This shows that there are people who may manifest the supernatural in the name of Jesus, without putting their faith in Jesus for their salvation.

The first way to know false ministers is by observing their doctrine (message). Our text above says every spirit that confesses that Jesus came in the flesh is of God. Why did Jesus come in the flesh? To suffer and die for our redemption. The emphasis of a true minister of God must always be Christ and His redemptive work. Always remember that signs and wonders are not to attract attention to/or confirm any man or woman, but confirm/point to Christ/the Gospel, (Mark 16:20).

Another way to know false ministers is by their lifestyle. Jesus said “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits…” (Matt.7:15-16). Not by gifts. The Gospel must be influencing their lives.

Father, I thank you for helping me preach the true Gospel of Christ and I thank you that the Gospel is transforming my life
