THE AWESOME GLORY OF CHRIST AND HIS DEATH

Luke 9:28-31

About a week after he had said these things, Jesus took Peter, John, and James with him and went up a hill to pray. While he was praying, his face changed its appearance, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly two men were there talking with him. They were Moses and Elijah, who appeared in heavenly glory and talked with Jesus about the way in which he would soon fulfill God’s purpose by dying in Jerusalem.

Christ’s birth was glorious but the reason why He was born is even more glorious. He came to suffer, die on the cross and to be raised up by the power of God for you and for me. He came to do all this so we can experience God’s saving power and become members of God’s own family. The suffering, death and resurrection of Christ were not ordinary. In our text above, we see that it was Christ’s death that Moses and Elijah were discussing with Christ at the Mount of Transfiguration when the heavenly glory intensely filled the atmosphere. Peter, James and John were privileged to witness a glimpse of the glory of Christ on this mountain. They were so amazed that Peter wanted to build three tabernacles there as a monument.

Peter saw the glory of Christ there, but he did not know what Moses and Elijah were discussing with Christ. If he did, he would not have tried to rebuke Jesus for talking about his death and resurrection in Matthew 16:21-22. The suffering and death of Christ is the hidden wisdom of God that has been ordained for our glory, (1Cor.2:7-8). The power and glory in the revelation of Christ’s suffering, death and resurrection is beyond human understanding. This season, God is going to reveal this power and glory to you and manifest it in your life.

In John 17:1 Jesus lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee.” The hour Jesus was talking about was the time for Him to go to the Cross. It was His time of glory. It was His time of unleashing the glory of God to manifest in our lives. May God grant you a fresh revelation of Christ and His death for you and may your life be filled with the power, blessings and glory of God.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I thank you for your glory that the suffering and death of Christ brought into my life. Open my eyes more to see this glory.
