The Beginning of Doing God’s Will

Hebrews 10:5-7 (GNB), John 4:33-34
For this reason, when Christ was about to come into the world, he said to God:
“You do not want sacrifices and offerings, but you have prepared a body for me. You are not pleased with animals burnt whole on the altar or with sacrifices to take away sins. Then I said, ‘Here I am, to do your will, O God,
just as it is written of me in the book of the Law.’ ”*Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat? Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

The beginning of doing God’s will is having a strong and sincere desire to please God and do His will. The advantages of doing God’s will are numerous. Doing God’s will not only pleases and glorifies God; it also aligns us with His glory and blessings. Often times, when we are outside of the will of God, we expose ourselves to so much evil, destruction and exploitation from the devil. On the other hand, when we are doing God’s will, we function the way God designed us in Christ to function. We also preserve and bless the lives of others in amazing ways (Ezek.22:30).

At the point of Saul’s conversion on the road to Damascus, he asked Jesus two questions: “who are you, Lord” and “what will you have me do?” (Acts 9:5-6). Right from the beginning of His relationship with God, He was committed to pleasing and doing God’s will. When He was on the earth, Jesus too had a strong and sincere desire to please God and do His will. He understood that His body and everything God had given Him was intended to please God and bring about God’s will. Jesus meat or source of greatest satisfaction came from doing God’s will and finishing His work. We are no longer living for ourselves but for Him who died and rose again for us (2Cor.5:15).

Doing God’s will begins from within (our thoughts, desires and attitudes). To carry out God’s will, just like Christ did, we must have the same mind that is in Christ Jesus (Phil.2:5-8); a mind of selflessness and humility before God.

Prayer Focus:
Tell God how much you desire to do His will and please Him. Yield yourself to Him and ask Him to use and lead you to do His will.
