THE BELIEVER’S JUDGMENT

1John 4:17 (GNB), 2Timothy 4:7-8

Love is made perfect in us in order that we may have courage on the Judgment Day; and we will have it because our life in this world is the same as Christ’s. *I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and … all them also that love his appearing.

As Christians, we know that Jesus will not return to judge us for our sins. Our sins were already judged on His Cross, and our faith in Him transformed us into new creatures. We now have His righteous nature and are no longer sinners. When the Apostle Paul said that we will all appear before Christ to be judged by Him based on what we did in our body, whether good or bad (2Cor.5:10, GNB), he was referring to Christ’s judgement for the kind of works we did to spread the Gospel/His Kingdom. Paul stated in 1 Corinthians 3:13-15 (CEV), “And the quality of each person’s work will be seen when the Day of Christ exposes it.” For on that Day, the fire will reveal everyone’s work; the fire will test it and reveal its true quality. If the structure built on the foundation survives the fire, the builder will be rewarded. But if your work is destroyed by fire, you will lose it; but you will be saved, as if you had escaped through the fire.”

“Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men,” Paul said in 2 Corinthians 5:11. As we saw yesterday, God’s terror (wrath) is coming on those who do not believe in Christ. As such, we persuade men to believe in Christ and be saved by preaching the Gospel. God wants us to look forward to Christ’s return and to be bold on the Day of Judgement because we are one with Christ.

Prayer:
Father, please use me to preach the Gospel to others in order for them to be saved and set free from the wrath of your coming judgement
