  2. There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand.

Bible Reading In One Year: Job 7-9; Acts 7:44-60

MESSAGE:

In Isaiah 9:6, the Lord was called a counsellor. A counsellor is a person you go to when you do not know what to do next. Counselling is very important in the life of every believer. The quality of the decisions you make will be determined by the advice you receive. The quality of the advice you receive is a function of the experience and training of your adviser. So, there are good and bad counsels. Psalms 1:1 forbids believers from receiving counsel from unbelievers. If you make an unbeliever your adviser, he will advise you contrary to the word of God.

Psalms 106:43 says whenever you take advice contrary to Gods word, you provoke God to work against you. For instance, if someone advises you to go into premarital sex for whatever reason, that advice violates the word of God in 1 Corinthians 6:18 which says: Flee fornication. If you then go ahead to do it, it must mean you are prepared to face whatever consequence that comes to you. Asides a few cases of God’s infinite mercy, your sin will fling the door open for the devil to do with you as he pleases.

Key Point:

Until you cut off from ungodly counsels, you may never experience Jesus as the Counsellor.

Hymn: When We Walk With The Lord

  1. When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way,
While we do His good will,
    He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Chorus:
Trust and obey,
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.

  1. Not a shadow can rise,
Not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away,
Not a doubt or a fear,
Not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
  2. Not a burden we bear,
    Not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay,
Not a grief nor a loss,
Not a frown nor a cross,
But is blest if we trust and obey.
  3. But we never can prove
    The delights of His love,
Until all on the altar we lay,
    For the favour He shows,
    And the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
  4. Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way,
What He says we will do,
Where He sends, we will go,
Never fear, only trust and obey.
