THE DANGER OF FORGETTING THE GOODNESS OF GOD
Psalms 106:6-9, 12-13 (GNB) We have sinned as our ancestors did…Our ancestors in Egypt did not understand God’s wonderful acts; they forgot the many times he showed them his love, and they rebelled against the Almighty at the Red Sea. But he saved them, as he had promised, in order to show his great power. He gave a command to the Red Sea, and it dried up; he led his people across on dry land. *Then his people believed his promises and sang praises to him. But they quickly forgot what he had done and acted without waiting for his advice.
“When the disciples crossed over to the other side of the lake, they forgot to take any bread. Jesus said to them, “Take care; be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” They started discussing among themselves, “He says this because we didn’t bring any bread.”Jesus …asked them, “Why are you discussing among yourselves about not having any bread? What little faith you have! Don’t you understand yet? Don’t you remember when I broke the five loaves for the five thousand men? … And what about the seven loaves for the four thousand men? How many baskets did you fill? (Matt.16:5-10). After all the times that Jesus had multiplied bread and fish to feed multitudes, the disciples kept forgetting what He did and they still did not have faith in His supernatural supply and provision.

God expects us to remember the things He has done for us and He wants our meditation of the things He has done for us to strengthen our faith by bringing us to a place where we have a better understanding of His ability and willingness to manifest Himself in our lives. When we take the things that God does for us lightly, we will forget them easily but the more we fill our minds with the thoughts of God’s goodness, the more we will remember them.
This is what David must have done after God delivered him from the lion and the bear. That is why he remembered and was strong in faith when he saw Goliath’s threat, (1Sam.17:37). This is what the Israelites failed to do in our text above. They continued forgetting God’s goodness and doubting God’s ability. Use rejoicing and thanksgiving to fill your mind with the things God has done for you until it affects your understanding and consciousness of God’s power and faithfulness.
Action Point:
Cast your mind back to the things that God has done for you either recently or a while ago and rejoice, praise and thank Him deeply for them.
