THE DANGERS OF COMPLACENCY

2 SAMUEL 11:1-4(GNB)

…at the time of the year when kings usually go to war, David sent out Joab … and the Israelites army….But David ….stayed in Jerusalem. One day, late in the afternoon, David got up from his nap and went to the palace roof . As he walked around… he saw a woman taking a bath in her house. She was very beautiful. So he sent a messenger to find out who she was, and…. David sent messengers to get her.

Being complacent in any area of your life can be a very dangerous thing. Complacency is about choosing to relax and drop back in your zeal and commitment because you think you have arrived or for some other reason. Like we see from King David’s story, his seemingly ”innocent” complacency eventually cost him a lot and led him to do many unimaginable things.

One great danger of complacency is that, It can unconsciously lead anyone down the part of great compromise. There is never a safe time to be complacent in any area of your life. Never lose your vision and your zeal. Keep increasing them. “Be enthusiastic to serve the Lord , keeping your passion towards him boiling hot! Radiate with the glow of the Holy Spirit and let him fill you with excitement as you serve him” ( Romans 12:11, TPT).
“… be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for as much as you know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58). Keep walking in the Spirit so that you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh (Galatians 5:16). Keep guarding your heart with all diligence (Proverbs 4:23).

Keep growing and pressing forward in every area of your life. Never think you have all the time . Never let pride or anything make you become careless and complacent.

Prayer:
Dear Father, please help me never to lose my vision and zeal. Help me never to let pride make me careless and complacent.
