THE DIRECTION OF OUR SPIRITUAL GROWTH

PHILPPIANS 3:8-10 (LB)

Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the priceless gain of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. I have put aside all else, counting it worth less than nothing, in order that I can have Christ, and become one with him…Now I have given up everything else—I have found it to be the only way to really know Christ and to experience the mighty power that brought him back to life again…..

As we desire to grow spiritually, we must have a focus, direction, goal and target in mind for our spiritual growth. Our focus, direction, goal and target must be Christ and His fullness. As believers, our spiritual maturity is measured by our Christ-likeness or how much we have become like Christ and are reflecting Him in our lives. We must therefore always have a very strong desire to be more like Christ and to put on more and more of His likeness (character and nature).

God’s destiny for us is to be like Christ, (Rom.8:29). God wants every one of us to come to the fullness of the stature of Christ and to grow up into Him in all things, (Eph.4:13-15). He wants us to press into Christ.

The only way we can become more like Christ is as we keep our focus on Him. We must keep beholding (seeing and focusing on) Him in the Word of God. As we do this, the Spirit of God transforms us and makes us more and more like Christ, (2 Cor.3:18, AMPC). It is only by the revelation of Christ (who He is and all He has done for us) that the Holy Spirit can transform us from glory to glory into Christ’s image. Therefore, we must keep learning of Him, (Matt.11:29,1 Corr.2:1-2). We must let the revelation of Christ dwell in us richly, (Col.3:16). Renew your mind, declare, pray and live by the revelation of Christ.

PRAYER:
Dear Father, I desire to be more and more like Christ. Help me to focus more on Christ. Please reveal more of Christ to me.
