The Echo of God’s Word

“But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and whatever he does, he prospers.”

Psalms 1:2-3

The person who delights in God’s Word is likened to a deeply rooted tree that is healthy and fruit-yielding. What is the fruit such a person yields? We know it as the fruit of the Spirit, found in Galatians 5:22-23 – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. These characteristics mark the life of the blessed and righteous person – the true believer.   

As Christians we are not only to delight in His Word, but we are also to meditate on it. The word for meditate means to “say again.” It’s like talking something over internally. When we meditate on Scripture, it lingers in our minds and echoes in every moment of our day. So begin every morning delighting in God’s Word, pondering the meanings and implications for you, and let it echo throughout your day.
