THE FAITH OF CHRIST

Hebrews 11:24-26 (LB)

It was by faith that Moses, when he grew up, refused to be treated as the grandson of the king, but chose to share ill-treatment with God’s people instead of enjoying the fleeting pleasures of sin. He thought that it was better to suffer for the promised Christ than to own all the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking forward to the great reward that God would give him.

The reason the people of the Old Testament had faith was because of Christ. They were looking forward to the promised Christ. This hope (assurance) of Christ made them walk with God, live differently from the way others were living and do exploits.

Talking about the heroes of faith in the Old Testament, Hebrews 11:39-40 says, “And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.” Now, in verse 33 the Bible says, “They obtained promises.” What promise then did they not receive? – The promise of Christ. They did not witness the coming of Christ. This is the better thing God planned for us. It was by looking forward to Christ that they had faith and did exploits, but this Christ lives in you now by His Spirit.

God told Abraham about Christ (Gal.3:8) and Jesus said, “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad,” (John 8:56). Christ was the reason for Abraham’s faith. He saw Christ and all Christ will do in the spirit. The seed God promised Abraham was Christ, (Gal.3:16). It is because he knew Christ will come through His biological lineage, that Abraham had faith for the birth of Isaac.

Prayer:
Father, I thank you that Christ lives in me now by the Spirit. Because of Christ, all things are possible for me.
