TOPIC:
THE FAMILY ON WHOM GOD’S ANOINTING IS AT WORK

TEXT:
Eph 5:17; 6:9; Gen 18:17-19; Josh 24:14-18; 2Pt 1:3-4

INTRODUCTION:
The family is a group of people living together as a unit. Anointing means an unction, inner knowing deposited by the Holy Spirit to get results in duties or services. God declares to the family in Gen 1:28 “…..be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it, and have dominion…”
He has laid down principles that will position His people into abundance and make them outstanding in all that pertains to life and godliness. His desire is that His children prosper in all ramifications. In this study, we shall be looking at God’s desire for the family among other things

LESSON OBJECTIVES
The objectives of this lesson are to:

  1. Know God’s concept of family
  2. Know the characteristics of a godly family and
  3. Understand God’s principles for establishing and increasing a godly family

BIBLE TRUTH:
QUESTION 1A.
WHAT DOES THE WORD “FAMILY” MEANS ?
The family can be said to be a group of people living together as a unit; consisting of the father, mother and children/ward (nuclear) and other members as (extended). It is the foundational institution of society ordained by God, constituted by marriage and composed of persons related to one another by marriage, blood or adoption.

QUESTION 1B. WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF FAMILY ? Gen 2:18-25
God is the originator, master planner and sustainer of the family. He instituted marriage (that brought forth the family) at the Garden of Eden with the sole purpose of companionship, fruitfulness, sustenance of His creation etc. The family is the central plan of God for the happiness and progress of His creation.

QUESTION 1C. READ EPH 5:17, 6:9 AND DISCUSS GODS CONCEPT OF FAMILY
It is the will of God that the family is formed and that He is the grand master of the family that desires fruitfulness. The family is to serve as the first channel of God’s blessings and revelations; a place where He can establish a direct contact and relationship with each of His children.

QUESTION 2.
QUESTION 2. DID GOD GIVE ANY CONDITIONS FOR STARTING A GODLY FAMILY ?
The reason God requires a godly family is that it might bring forth godly seed (Mal 2:15c)
For a family to stand out in godliness, God must be involved. As a unit in the entire society, such family should be (in accordance with the word of God) separates from the ungodly lifestyle of the society. In addition, it must be dutiful while avoiding the evil/corrupt practices in the “present world” so as to please God.

QUESTION 3. DISCUSS GEN 8:12; 14:15-16, 21-23 AS IT RELATES TO RECEIVING ANOINTING AS A FAMILY.

A) TRANSFORMATION TO BECOMING IKE JESUS'(IN WORD, DEEDS)AND APPERANCES) The family that is anointed transform to becoming like Jesus through studying and application of the word of God. B).PROSPERITY (SPIRITUALLY AND MATERIALLY). “…and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” (Psalm 1:3c). If we keep God’s commandments as a family it shows we love Him and the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit will bring prosperity.
C). RELATIONSHIP (BETWEEN HUSBAND AND WIFE, AS WELL AS PARENTS AND CHILDREN) 2TIM 1:5. God is glorified in the relationship within the family as members live in obedience to the word of God.
D). Role in the body of Christ (in church and to the brethren). Eph 4:1-6
E). Role in the society/community (from the scriptural perspectives). The anointed family is a light and salt to the society/community. Matt 5:14-16.

QUESTION 4A. LIST OTHER CHARACTERISTICS OF A GODLY FAMILY.
A. A godly family seeks God and His approval for actions Josh 24:15
B. A godly family fears God and keep His commandments Jn 14:15
C. A godly family serves God and each other Josh 24:15
D. A godly family speaks the truth at all times Prov 27:5
E. A godly family is united 1Cor 1:10, Jn 17:23
F. A godly family loves and forgives each other. Lk 17:3-4, 1Pt 4:8, 1Cor 16:14

QUESTION 4B. WHAT CAN BE HINDERANCES FOR A FAMILY BECOMING GODLY AND OUTSTANDING ? Deut 28:15; Eph 4:30
There are number of things that can hinder a family from becoming godly and outstanding, some of these are:
I. Harbouring sinful lifestyle Prov 28:13
II. Disobedience to God’s principles Deut 28:15; Eph 5:21-33; 6:1-9
III. Grieving the Holy Spirit that gives wisdom and direction. Eph 4:30
IV. Self-centredness that breeds pride between the members Prov 28:25a
V. Slothfulness Prov 12:24b; 22:13; 24:30

QUESTION 4C.
WHAT BLESSINGS ACRUE TO A GODLY FAMILY ? Ps 92:10; Deut 28:1-13; Isa 1:19.
The blessings are numerous, they are both spiritual and physical. These include:
Assurance of salvation of the members of the family which gives them the privilege of continual being in God’s presence, promotion, productivity, fruitfulness, answer to prayers, divine guidance and none shall be lost in eternity.

DAILY LIVING APPLICATION
The Lord God Almighty, the author of the family units, has freely provided all needed both spiritually and physically for families to be godly and outstanding. However, we can tap these amazing provisions only if we are willing to seek knowledge in all spiritual understanding, and are obedient to observe every instructions and leading of the Most High God. Then and only then, will the Holy Spirit continually abide in us and with us to always grant us good and sustainable success in the midst of a chaotic world. Seek ye the Lord, add to your faith obedience to His instructions and leadings, so that it shall be well with your family.

MEMORY VERSE
Genesis 18:17 &19 “And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;….For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.”
