The great newspaper columnist Erma Bombeck used to say something that has helped me so much in my life. Talking about contentment, she said, “The grass is always greener over the septic tank.” That mantra later became the title of one of her books.

What Bombeck meant was that many times in life, we perceive things would be better if we’d taken another path. But often, the “greener grass” we’re seeking is found in things that are actually toxic – things that look enjoyable at the surface but underneath are dying and decaying.

This is exactly why the happiest people in the world aren’t those who seem to have it all. The happiest people, rather, are the ones who’ve discovered that going from pasture to pasture chasing green grass leads to nothing but frustration.

When David wrote that the Lord “makes me lie down in green pastures” (Psalm 23:2), he was saying that when we walk with God, He gives us a resting place from constant want. And in Him, all of our needs are met in abundance.

Walk with the Lord and find contentment in the pasture where He leads you. Stick with God’s plan for you and you’ll never be disappointed!

BE CONTENT WHERE GOD LEADS YOU IN LIFE AND YOU’LL NEVER BE LACKING.
