THE FIRE OF THE REVELATION OF CHRIST
Luke 24:13-16 27, 32 (GNB)
…two of Jesus’ followers were going to …Emmaus, … As they talked …Jesus himself drew near…but somehow did not recognize him. *And Jesus explained to them what was said about himself in all the Scriptures, beginning with the books of Moses and the writings of all the prophets. *They said to each other, “Wasn’t it like a fire burning in us when he talked to us…and explained the Scriptures to us?”
The revelation of Christ has a way of stirring up the fire of God in our hearts. Our text above shows us how the disciples of Jesus felt like fire was burning in their hearts as Jesus was speaking to them. It is not exactly the sound of the voice of Jesus that put this fire in their hearts, the fire came from what Jesus was saying to them. Jesus was opening their eyes to see the things written about Him in the entire Old Testament scriptures. As this glorious revelation of the love of God and the work Christ was filling their hearts, they felt like a fire was burning in their heart. This is what happens to us as we fill ourselves with the revelation of Christ and our eyes are opened to the revelation of Christ as we study the scriptures.
When this fire of the revelation of Christ is burning in your heart, it will make you do exploits for God and it will flow out from you and consume others. You will be so passionate about making others aware of the grace of God available to them in Christ. The life and fullness of Christ will be stirred up and flow out of you and you will not be able to keep this good news to yourself. It is this fire that made people like Apostle Paul passionate that they did the kind of exploits they did. Paul once taught this Gospel to twelve men for two years and through these men, all of Asia heard the Gospel, (Acts 19:1-10).
Prayer:
Father, as I fill my heart with the revelation of Christ, open my eyes to who Christ is and all you have done for me through Him.
