THE FOCUS AND CONTENTMENT OF JESUS

Luke 4:5-8 (GNB)

Then the Devil took him up and showed him in a second all the kingdoms of the world. “I will give you all this power and all this wealth,” the Devil told him. “It has all been handed over to me, and I can give it to anyone I choose. All this will be yours, then, if you worship me.” Jesus answered, “The scripture says, ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve only him!'”

In our world today, power and wealth are two things that many people are willing to do about anything to get. In fact, power and wealth have become a god to many people. It is what they actually worship though they claim they are worshipping God. The Bible shows us that covetousness is idolatry, (Col.3:5b).

Whatever you allow to take the place of God in your life has become a god to you. God wants us to be content and to worship Him alone. Jesus said, “Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possesses,” (Luke 12:15). 1Timothy 6:6 & 10 says, “But godliness with contentment is great gain. *For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

There was a time Jesus refused to be forcefully made king by certain people, (John 6:15). Jesus knew the path that God wanted Him to take and He was willing to patiently go through it. Jesus was willing to worship God alone and as He followed God’s path for His life, He eventually received all power in Heaven and earth, (Matt.28:18, Phil.2:9). Jesus was not carried away by power, titles or fame. He did not allow His popularity and many activities stop Him from withdrawing Himself often to pray, (Luke 5:16, NIV).

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, like Jesus, please help me to remain content, focused on you and to follow you as I fulfill my assignment.
