THE GLORIOUS UNITY OF THE EARLY CHURCH (2)

Acts 2:42-46 (LB)

They joined with the other believers in regular attendance at the apostles’ teaching sessions and at the Communion services and prayer meetings. … And all the believers met together constantly and shared everything with each other… They worshiped together regularly at the Temple…met in small groups in homes… and shared their meals with great joy and thankfulness,

One of the results of the great love and unity in the early church was that daily, people were being saved and added to the church, (Acts 2:47). By their attitude, Jesus was being lifted up and He was drawing men to Himself. It was all about Jesus. The life of Jesus in them was being expressed and it was producing great fruit and results among them.

The Bible says, “Follow God’s example in everything you do just as a much-loved child imitates his father. Be full of love for others, following the example of Christ who loved you and gave himself to God as a sacrifice to take away your sins. And God was pleased, for Christ’s love for you was like sweet perfume to him,” (Eph.5:1-2, LB).

Now, it is important to note that the believers in the early church were not being forced to do all these wonderful things they were doing. It was the love of God they were receiving that was producing the kind of love and unity that they were manifesting. We cannot give what we do not have. The more we receive the love of God available for us in Christ, the more we will show it and give it to others. This is one reason why we must focus more on Christ and the preaching of the Gospel of Christ and we must also rely on the help of the Spirit.

Prayer:
Father, please help us to grow deeper in our love for one another and let our love for each other draw more people unto you.
