THE GOSPEL AND THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS (1)

Acts 13:38 (NKJV, NLT, GNB)

Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins; *“Brothers, listen! We are here to proclaim that through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins. *All of you, my fellow Israelites, are to know for sure that it is through Jesus that the message about forgiveness of sins is preached to you;

The forgiveness of sins is central to Christ’s work of redemption and the Gospel message. As a result, when we preach the Gospel, we must make it clear to people that God loves them and that because He sent Christ to die for them, all of their sins have been forgiven right now. If they believe this message and place their faith in Christ, they will receive the forgiveness of their sins and be saved. God will then enter their lives and transform them.

Prior to the arrival of Jesus, John the Baptist preached that people needed to repent in order for their sins to be forgiven. When they asked what they needed to do, he told them that they needed to repent and change their ways before they could be saved (Luke 3:3, 8-14). This was the message Apollos was preaching when Aquilla and Priscilla took him aside and better explained God’s way to him (Acts 18:24-26). If a person can change his or her ways on his or her own, he or she no longer requires Christ to be saved. When the jailer asked what he needed to do to be saved, Paul replied, “…Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house” (Acts 16:31). A sinner repents by believing the Gospel, and believers repent by remembering and declaring what Christ has done for us and our new nature. It all comes down to understanding the Gospel.

Prayer:
Dear Father, I pray that as I preach the Gospel of Christ, people will learn about your love and their sins will be forgiven.
