The Grace to Always Acknowledge and Focus on Jesus
John 1:10-14 (NLT)
He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.
We need the help of the Holy Spirit to focus on Jesus, to recognize Him and to see His glory. The Bible confirms that no man can confess that Jesus is Lord except by the help of the Holy Spirit (1Cor.12:3). The Jews and Pharisees saw Jesus as a full-grown man but they still did not recognize Him as the saviour and Son of God. As such, they hated Him and sought to kill Him. On the other hand, by the Spirit of God, Simeon saw Jesus as an eight day old baby and recognized Him (Luke 2:25-34). Jesus asked His disciples who men said He was they gave various answers. When Jesus asked them who they thought He was, God revealed to Peter exactly who Jesus was (Matt.16:13-17). After His resurrection, Jesus was walking and talking with two of His disciples on the road to Emmaus and they did not recognize Him until their eyes were opened (Luke 24:13-31).
Every time we see Jesus and recognize Him, something happens to us. As we behold His glory, we experience the glory and the power of God in our lives and we are changed from glory to glory into His image (2Cor.3:18). Every time we see and recognize Jesus, we are seeing ourselves and all God has made is to be because God’s testimony about us is that the same life that is in Jesus resides in us (1 John 5:10-11). Jesus said, “You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! Yet you refuse to come to me to receive this life” (John 5:39-40, NLT). As you study the scriptures, desire to learn how what you are studying points to Christ and His work of redemption. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you do this. The glory of God will be activated in your life.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I ask that your Spirit, you help me to always see Christ and recognize Him and His glory as I study the scriptures.
