THE GREATEST OF PRIVILEGES

“And working together with Him, we also encourage you not to receive the grace of God in vain…” 2 Corinthians 6:1

In December of 2006, I was given a great privilege. My dear ministry friend, Carl Townsend, got me involved in the promotion of the inspirational movie, Rocky Balboa—the sixth installment in the Rocky saga for all you Rocky aficionados.

With the promotion was a chance to lead a pastor’s Q&A meeting with Sylvester Stallone himself. I was able to spend time with him and pray over him as we closed out the session. For this HUGE Rocky fan, I experienced a dream come true. When the opportunity arose for me to work with Stallone in the promotion of Rocky Balboa, I was all in because I think so much of him and the movie character he created.

WORKING WITH GOD

As much as you and I may love the thought of working with certain people, there is nothing that can remotely compare to being invited to “work together” with God. Can you comprehend the privilege of the King of kings and Lord of lords asking little ol’ you and little ol’ me to work alongside Him? Such a thought would be unthinkable had it not been for the clear teaching of Scripture.

God has called us to be His ambassadors, His representatives on earth (see 2 Corinthians 5:20). We have been given the ministry of reconciliation, telling people (through our life and through our lips) about the grace of God that can forgive, redeem, and transform the worst of sinners.

So here is the question: how are you doing when it comes to working with God and presenting His grace to a lost and dying world?

1. Many Christians put their work with God on the back burner. In effect, they are receiving “the grace of God in vain.” They are not letting the grace of God transform them or compel them to shine for Christ and share His story. This is a great tragedy as people all around us are facing an eternal hell without Jesus. Those without the Savior desperately need to hear about His love and grace … and they need to hear it from us and see it real in us.

2. You can put your work with God on the front burner. You can wake up every day excited to walk with the King and work with the King. What a privilege! Listen, God wants to shine through your life. As you surrender afresh each day to the Lord Jesus, He will live through you by His Spirit, and the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him will permeate every place you go. People will take note and recognize that you act and react in a very different manner from the rest of the world. They may hate you for following Jesus (many hated Him in Israel), but they will respect you for being true.

I once heard an interview with George Foreman. He was mounting a comeback to the world of professional boxing. He was working hard promoting his cause in order to create a stir and get a chance at the title. He said to the interviewer, “No one follows a water truck, but if you can keep a fire truck going by, they’ll come out of their homes to try and see where the fire is.”

Let me encourage you to be a fire truck for Jesus! Lift your voice and sound the alarm! Be a force for Him and with Him! He is ready to put you in the game and use your life to make an eternal difference in the lives of others.

What do you say to His offer? Will you start working with the King … and will you start today?

Love,

Pastor Jeff Schreve,
