MEMORISE: “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” – 1 Corinthians 10:13

READ: 1 Corinthians 10:12-15

12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Zechariah 10-12; Revelation 20

MESSAGE:

A helmet protects the head. The head is where the brain is located and the brain is the seat of decision making. Once in a while, the enemy sends arrows that came in form of temptation. You have a choice to fall for the temptation or overcome it. If you fall for the temptation of sin and continue in it, you will lose your salvation and this will open you up to attacks of the devil. Knowing this, it will then be foolish of you to fall into temptation.

In 2008, we had a slogan in the Redeemed Christian Church of God that kept our helmet of salvation on. We decided that whenever the devil brings temptation our way, we will say, “Joy to the wise, Joy to me, I refuse to be a fool”. It is fools that lose their salvation to sin. They put off their helmet of salvation and leave their heads exposed for attacks, no wonder the wages of sin is death.

KEY POINT:

No matter what the devil uses to tempt you, keep your salvation intact.

Hymn 16:

1 Christian, seek not yet repose
Hear thy gracious Savior say;
Thou art in the midst of foes:
Watch and pray.

2 Principalities and power
Mustering their unseen array
Wait for the unguarded hours:
Watch and pray

3 Gird the heavenly armor on,
Wear it ever night and day;
Ambushed lies the evil one:
Watch and pray.

4 Hear the victors who o’ercame,
Still they mark each warrior’s way;
All with one sweet voice exclaim,
Watch and pray.

5 Hear, above all, hear thy Lord,
Him thou loves to obey;
Hide within thy heart His word:
Watch and pray.

6 Watch, as if on that alone
Hung the issue of the day;
Pray, that help may be sent down:
Watch and pray.
