The Important of Prayer in Knowing and Doing God’s Will
Jeremiah 33:3 (CEV), James 1:5-8 (GNB)
Ask me, and I will tell you things that you don’t know and can’t find out. *But if any of you lack wisdom, you should pray to God, who will give it to you; because God gives generously and graciously to all. But when you pray, you must believe and not doubt at all. Whoever doubts is like a wave in the sea that is driven and blown about by the wind. If you are like that, unable to make up their minds and undecided in all they do, must not think that they will receive anything from the Lord.
When you are conscious that someone who loves you is willing to freely give you something you desire, you will be more willing to ask the person for it and expect to receive it. In our study yesterday, we saw that not only do we have the ability to know and do God’s will, God loves us so much that He is willing to reveal His will to us. All that God wants us to do is to ask Him for that revelation.
In our first text above, God invites us to ask Him to reveal things to us; things that we cannot know or find out on our own. There is nothing that God cannot reveal to us. When the life of Daniel and all the wise men in Babylon were at steak because nobody could discern or interpret king Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, Daniel went back to his friends and together they prayed unto God to reveal the dream and its meaning to them. God answered their prayer. Daniel was bold enough to ask for some time to tell the king his dream because he knew that God would reveal it to him (Dan.2:15-19). Daniel and his friends were eventually promoted (Dan.2:46-49).
When we ask God for wisdom, we should ask in faith and God will give it to us abundantly. When we doubt or are double minded, we are unstable and we cannot receive anything from God. In the midst of the great challenge David and his men were facing, David asked God for direction on what to do about those who had taken away their families and properties. God instructed him to go after them; a move that eventually led to their recovery of everything (1Sam.30). Talk to your loving Heavenly Father about that challenge and trial.
Prayer Focus:
Talk to God, your loving Heavenly Father, right now about that target or desire in your heart. Receive His wisdom and strength to do His will.
