The Long View of Love

“Love bears all things, believes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.”

1 Corinthians 13:7-8

On her 50th wedding anniversary, a woman was asked by her granddaughter, “Granny, what is the secret to your happy marriage?” The woman answered, “When we married, I made a list of 10 things I would overlook in your grandfather’s personality.” When asked what was on that list, the woman replied, “I never really wrote them down. But every time your grandfather did something to upset me, I would think to myself, ‘Lucky for him that’s one of the things on my list!’” 

Real love is willing to overlook annoyances and petty disagreements, choosing instead to take a long-term view. Our only hope as human lovers is to allow the love of Christ to flow through us.
