The only thing that really lasts in life

It was my privilege when I was a pastor in West Palm Beach to begin a Bible study for the baseball players who came to train there in the spring. And I met so many baseball players who played baseball by the will of God and were committed to Christ; one of those was the New York Mets catcher Gary Carter.
In 1986, the New York Mets won the World Series. As always, the TV cameras went to the locker room. And the very first person that they interviewed in the locker room was Gary Carter. There amidst all the celebration, with a microphone stuck in his face and cameras from all over the world running, Gary Carter said, “First of all, I want to thank the Lord Jesus Christ.”

It had been my privilege to baptize Gary a few years before, and I had become his pastor and friend. And when I spoke with him again I said, “Gary, the World Series comes and goes. But what you said on television, putting Christ first, influencing young people and adults all over the world for Jesus Christ, will live on in eternity long after the ball game is over!” Gary eventually was elected to the Hall of Fame, and lived a life shining for the Lord, until he was called on to his heavenly reward. He lived a magnificent life, and his legacy continues on through his wonderful family and players who came to know Christ due to his testimony and life honorably lived.
Now, most people aren’t professional athletes and even more don’t have an open microphone to the world. But you can make it your life’s mission to share Christ every day. Live out His grace in your life and tell others about what He has done because that will live on long after your life is over!
GOD’S WORD IS THE ONLY THING THAT LASTS IN LIFE. SO INVEST IN ETERNITY BY LIVING YOUR LIFE TO SHARE CHRIST WITH OTHERS!
