The Power of God’s Promises and Covenant to You

Genesis 15:1, 8 & 18 (GNB), Hebrews 6:13 (TPT)
After this, Abram had a vision and heard the LORD say to him, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I will shield you from danger and give you a great reward.” *But Abram asked, “Sovereign LORD, how can I know that it will be mine?” *Then and there the LORD made a covenant with Abram. He said, “I promise to give your descendants all this land… *Now when God made a promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater than himself, he swore an oath on his own integrity to keep the promise as sure as God exists!

Do you ever have doubts about God’s promises to you? Abraham once did. After God made a great promise to him, Abraham wanted to be sure that God would keep His promise and not change His mind. To reassure Abraham, God added an oath or covenant to the promise He had made to him. In Abraham’s time, covenant removed doubts about people keeping their promises. People entered into covenant back then by cutting certain animals into two parts. Then they would walk amidst the animals, while pledging to keep there word to each other. After God asked Abraham to cut the animals, God caused a deep sleep to fall on Abraham. God Himself walked through the cut animals and pledged His word to Abraham (Gen.15:9-17). This was necessary because it was only God that was making a promise. Abraham was only to receive the manifestation of the promise.

For every promise God has made to you in His word, He has backed it up with a covenant. God established this covenant by the death of Jesus. Jesus said, “… This cup is God’s new covenant sealed with my blood, which is poured out for you.” (Luke 22:20, GNB). Because of the death of Jesus on the cross, God will keep every promise that He has made to you. Jesus has fulfilled all the conditions for you to experience the promises of God. Right now, because you are in Christ, all the promises of God are already your reality (2Cor.1:20). As you accept them as your reality, they will manifest and become your experience. God’s promises are also backed by God’s power. By that power that God used to raise Christ from the dead, God wants you to test assured that He can accomplish anything in your life (Rom.4:17).

Prayer Focus:
Thank God that His promises to you are backed by the death of Christ and God’s resurrection power. Declare God’s promises into your life.
