THE POWER OF GOD’S TESTIMONY OF YOU

1 JOHN 5:9-11(NIV)
We accept human testimony, but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son. Who ever believes in the Son of God accepts his testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.

In our study yesterday, we saw that in the Bible, the word testimony refers to an instruction or message. In our text above, some versions of the Bible use the word ‘witness’ in place of the word ‘testimony’, and one of the meanings of the root word here is ‘a report’ ; referring to the report given by a witness in a law court.

The reason people call a witness in a law court to testify for them is to increase their chances of winning the case. Now, if people can win cases because of the testimonies given by humans, what do you think will happen when God comes to testify for you ? “what shall we then say to these things ? if God be for us, who can be against us ? (Rom.
8:31). The only way you can lose any life case is if you refuse to believe God’s testimony concerning
you. Our text above says by doing so you are invariably calling God a liar; which means doubting Him and cutting yourself off from His will and plan for your life.

Another amazing thing about our text above is that the way God testifies about you is by testifying about Christ. God’s testimony of Christ is His testimony of you because you are one with Christ, ( 1 Cor.
6:17, 1 John 4: 17). God’s testimony of you is that the same life that is in Christ is in you. Therefore whatever is true about Christ is true about you.

I thank you, Father, that through my faith in Jesus ‘ sacrifice on the cross, I am free from the wrath of your coming judgement
