THE POWER OF THANKSGIVING IN PRAYER

Philippians 4:6 (GNB, LB, NLT)

Don’t worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. *Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done *Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs, and don’t forget to thank him for his answers.

Thanksgiving is very important whenever we are praying to God. Thanksgiving does not make God answer our prayers, but it is an expression of our faith that God has heard and answered our prayer. God answers our prayers because He loves us (Matt.7:11) and because we are praying in the name or authority of Jesus (John 16:23). Your ability to thank God for what you are praying for shows that you have confidence in His love and ability to do what you are asking for. It also shows you believe you have received. Jesus said when we pray, we should believe we receive what we are asking for and we shall have it, (Mark 11:24). God wants us to say and do all things in the name of Jesus, giving thanks unto Him through, by or because of Jesus, (Col.3:17). As you pray, God wants you to thank Him that because of Jesus He will do what you are asking for. Thank God for what His word says about you and about your need.

The verse that follows our text above shows that after praying with thanksgiving, the peace of God will flood your heart. When the peace of God floods our hearts, we begin to receive direction from God for how to receive what we have asked for. The peace of God will also guard your heart. It will keep and strengthen you as you wait for the manifestation of your desire.

Action Point:
Ask God in faith concerning every desire in your heart and thank Him that because of Jesus He has answered you.
