THE POWER OF THE TONGUE 1
Dear Reader,
Welcome to the month of May! My prayer for you is that God will shine His light in every dark area of your life in Jesus’ name. This week, I will focus on ‘The Power of the Tongue’.
The tongue is an integral part of the human make-up, and it has the capacity to either make or mar lives. The Bible specifically states that the tongue helps determine the essence of our living.The Word says: Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof (Proverbs 18:23). Jesus also said: Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes (Luke 19:42). So, the choice is ours on how to make use of our tongue rightly because we will reap the consequences thereof.
Therefore, if you desire peace, harmony, happiness in your life, home and family, you must guide your tongue aright. I believe as you read through this article, you will know how to use your tongue to your advantage for a successful family life in Jesus’ name.

The Characteristics of a Tongue (James 3:1-13):
- The tongue is small, but it Boasts Great Things. For example; pride is in the heart, but it is expressed through the mouth.
- It is a Fire. It burns out peace and leaves confusion. It is like a spark, and it kindles fire in the family. i.e., gossip.
- It is an unruly evil, which is full of Deadly Poison.
- It is used to Bless and Curse.
Every good tree brings good fruit and a bad tree produces bad fruit. Friend, what do you want in your family this year? I don’t care how much you can pray, fast or give, you will still reap the fruits of your lip. Dear sister, after you have prayed for your husband, believed God for your children and stood on the Word of God for your business, you now come out and meet with one of your friends and then your mouth begins to play negative again; you are far from good. This will not be your portion in Jesus’ name! Keep your mouth from speaking evil. The Word says: A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled (Proverbs 18:20). Your home shall be satisfied with the fruit of your mouth. Understand that words are seeds; when you plant them, they begin to germinate and bring forth the kind of fruits thereof. The Bible says: …whatsoever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and that which you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven (Matthew 16:19). You bind and loose with your tongue, so determine how to use your tongue. Our God is not a purposeless; for everything He created, there is a purpose. He created the tongue for a purpose.
Why did God create the Tongue?
- To glorify Him (James 5:9-10).
- To edify – to build people up and to communicate good (Ephesians 4:29).
- To comfort and bring hope to people (Isaiah 50:4).
- To release power for turnarounds into situations (Ecclesiastes 8:4).
Friend, are you using your tongue for the purpose for which it was created? Examine yourself and turn! This is your year of laughter. Let everything that does not please God depart from you, so that your laughter may be established this year. Let evil communication depart from you, and you shall see good.So, speak well of your husband and let words of grace come out of your mouth to your children, and mean it.
However, you need the grace from above to speak rightly, and until you are saved, you cannot experience this. If you are not born again, please say this prayer of faith: Dear Lord, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Now, I know I am born again!
