THE POWER OF THE TONGUE (2)

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the concluding part of this teaching. In the last edition, I examined why we need to use our tongue rightly, the characteristics of the tongue and the purpose of the same. This week, I will be examining ‘Positive use of the Tongue’.

The Bible says: Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come 1 Corinthians 10:11. If you stand on the shoulder of another man, you will see farther and when you learn from others, you become wiser. May the good Lord give you understanding in Jesus’ name!

Positive Effect of the use of the Tongue:

• It Brings Peace. The following women in Scripture exhibited this fruit:Abigail was married to a man of low reasoning, he exhibited folly and was going to be destroyed with his entire household, but the household was preserved because of the intervention of Abigail, who spoke the right words(1 Samuel 25).

The Jews were to be destroyed by the wickedness of a high-ranking officer (Haman), but Esther, a Jew, was privileged to have favour in the sight of the king. She used her tongue positively, her people were delivered, and their enemy, Haman, died in their stead(Esther 4:15-16; 7:1-10).

• It Procures Life. Concerning the Shunamite woman, her son was said to have died, and instead of crying and saying negative words, she used her tongue positively, and her son was brought back to life(2 Kings 4:26).
• It Establishes Destiny. Concerning the twelve spies; when they returned with a negative report, Joshua and Caleb used their tongues. They perished, but Joshua and Caleb, who came with a good report, were preserved, and they entered the promised land(Numbers 13:25-33).
• Divine Presence. God dwells only with the pure in heart and lips. When God’s presence is with you, no mountain can withstand you. Therefore, speak right so as to carry divine presence.

Many have destroyed their homes and the lives of their children with their tongue. That will not be your portion in Jesus’ name! Therefore, use your tongue rightly. However, you need the grace from above to speak rightly, and until you are saved, you cannot experience this. If you are not born again, please say this prayer of faith: Dear Lord, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Now, I know I am born again!
