THE PRAYER LIFE OF JESUS AND PAUL

Luke 5:15-16 (TPT), Romans 1:9 After this miracle the news about Jesus spread even farther. Massive crowds continually gathered to hear him speak and to be healed from their illnesses. But Jesus often slipped away from them and went into the wilderness to pray. *For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers.

The way Jesus gave Himself to prayer when He was on the earth signals how important it is to be fervent and faithful in prayer. Jesus was passionate about and diligent in prayer. The Bible informs us that Jesus usually rose up a great while before it was day and went to a quiet place to pray (Mark 1:35).

Jesus did not allow His many challenges and ministry activities to stop Him from communing with God in prayer. Even before going to suffer and die on the Cross, Jesus gave Himself to prayer. He consistently prayed in all that He was doing. While He was being baptized, He was praying (Luke 3:21). He prayed for His disciples (Luke 22:31-32). Sometimes, He prayed all night to God. He loved being in fellowship with God, the Father.

Paul also gave Himself a lot to prayer. He remembered other believers and churches in his prayers every day and even when he was falsely accused, beaten and locked in a prison cell, he prayed and sang praises unto God(Acts 16:25). Paul prayed so much in tongues; in fact, even more than the entire Corinthian church (1Cor.14:18). Paul’s prayers where based on the revelation of Christ and were primarily focused on believers knowing Christ and growing in the fullness of the glory and power of Christ (Eph.1:15-20, Eph.3:14-19, Col.1:9-12).

Action Point:
Pray in the Spirit right now and receive God’s strength to grow and to be more fervent in your prayer life. Pray for others too.
