THE PRAYER OF FAITH (2)

James 5:13-15

Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

Our text above speaks about the need for a believer who is sick to call the elders of the church to pray for him/her. But this does not mean that a believer who is sick cannot pray for him/herself. According to our text above, it is not because they are elders or spiritual leaders that God will answer their prayers. Rather, it is because they pray the prayer of faith. If that same believer can pray the prayer of faith as we studied yesterday, he/she will also experience God’s healing power.

The power of God is not reserved for certain high level ministers of the Gospel. It is for all who will believe. Jesus said these signs shall follow them that believe (Mark 16:17). He also said whoever believes in Him will do the works that He did and even greater works, (John 14:12).

We can pray for people to experience God’s healing power because Jesus has healed them already by the stripes He took for them, (1Pet.2:24). You must also know that in ministering to the sick, we do not ‘ask God to heal them’ if we are standing right there with them. When we are not there with them, we can intercede for their healing, but when we are right there with them, we command the sickness to go out of their bodies in the name of Jesus. This is how Jesus healed the sick and this is also how Peter healed the lame man, (Acts 3).

Action Point:
Is your body sick? Thank God for healing you through Christ and command the sickness out now. Do same for others.
