The Real Definition of God

Genesis 1:3-4, 11-12, Romans 8:28
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: …*KJV:And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, …: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. *…all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

In our world today, it is saddening to note that the value and definition of so many things are drastically changing. Evil is becoming good and good is becoming evil. The Bible says, “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!” (Isa.5:20-21). Just like the Bible says, gross darkness is covering the people of the earth (Isa.60:2).

Our definition of what is ‘good’ must come from God because God is good. Psalms 100:5 says, “For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” Mark 10:18 (LB) adds, “Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked. “Only God is truly good!” It is only in our connection and alignment with God that we can know and also manifest what is good. It is only by God’s enablement that anyone can ever manifest any good. All good and perfect gifts come from God the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness nor shadow of turning (James 1:17).

We cannot consider a thing good simply because it feels or looks good; it is good only because God says it is good. In our text above, when God saw the manifestation of what He declared, He described it as good. Judges 17:6 says, “In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.” Can you imagine how terrible things must have been at that time? Our definition of good must be based on what is right in the eyes of God.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I acknowledge today that my definition of good is based on what you define as good and by what is good in your sight.
