THE SAME EFFECT

Romans 10:6-8 (NIV)

But the righteousness that is by faith says: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) “or ‘Who will descend into the deep?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim:

When our text above talks about the righteousness that is by faith, it is referring to the right standing with God (which we have because of our faith in Christ) that qualifies us and gives us access to the glory, power and blessings of God. He was juxtaposing it with the righteousness of the Law that deals with trying to have a right standing with God and qualifying for God’s power, blessings and glory by our works/trying to obey the Law.

Now, Paul goes further to explain a major principle that we must abide by in our practice and experience of the righteousness of faith. The principle is believing and declaring the word of God has the same effect as the physical presence and touch of Jesus. So Paul said you don’t need to try to bring Christ down from Heaven or raise Him from the dead to intervene in your situation. As you believe and speak the word and declare what Christ has done, you will experience Christ’s glory, power and blessing manifesting in your life and situation.

A centurion met Jesus to heal his servant and Jesus was willing to follow him home to lay hands on the servant, but the Centurion told Jesus to just speak the word from there and his servant will be healed. Jesus described the centurion’s attitude as great faith, (Matt.8:5-13).

Action Point:
Boldly declare the word of God over your life. Declare what you have, who you are and what you can do because of Christ.
