THE SPIRIT OF LEADERSHIP

Numbers 11:16-17 (LB), Isaiah 42:1 (NLT).

“Then the Lord said to Moses, “Summon before me seventy of the leaders of Israel; bring them to the Tabernacle, to stand there with you. I will come down and talk with you there, and I will take of the Spirit which is on you and will put it upon them also; they shall bear the burden of the people along with you, so that you will not have the task alone.“ Look at my servant, whom I strengthen. He is my chosen one, who pleases me. I have put my Spirit upon him. He will bring justice to the nations.

In our world today, a lot is usually said about the skills of leadership but very little or nothing is ever said about the Spirit of leadership. One of the first things we must also note is that leadership comes from God. The Bible says, “Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God,” (Rom.13:1, NLT). Promotion comes from God, (Psa. 75:6-7). There are many people in positions of authority who do not know or acknowledge that the authority they have come from God. When leaders genuinely acknowledge that the authority they have come from God, they will submit to God and receive the empowerment and provisions that God has made for them to have a successful leadership.
Whenever God gives a person an assignment or responsibility, He also gives that person His empowerment and favour. The problem however, is that not everybody that God has chosen for leadership submits themselves to God to receive His empowerment and provisions. Some submit initially and later start depending on their wisdom and ability and other things.

The main way God empowers and enables those He chooses or appoints is by His Spirit. God anointed Jesus with the Holy Ghost and power and Jesus went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil, (Acts 10:38). Jesus said the Spirit of the Lord was upon Him because God had anointed Him to preach the gospel, set the captives free, heal the brokenhearted and bless lives, (Luke 4:18-19).

PRAYERS:
Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that every authority I have has come from you. Right now, I submit myself to you for your empowerment to lead well.
