THE SPIRITUAL MINDEDNESS OF ELISHA

2Kings 6:15-17 (NIV)

When (Gehazi) got up and went out…an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?” … “Don’t be afraid,” …“Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, LORD, so that he may see.” Then the LORD opened the servant’s eyes, and he…saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

When you study the life of Elisha, you will discover various ways in which he manifested walking in the spirit above walking in the flesh. A good place to start is how he responded when Elijah came by Elisha’s farm, put his outer coat on Elisha and continued on his way. Elisha understood what that meant; which was God’s call to follow and serve under Elijah and he immediately stopped all he was doing and started following and serving under Elijah, (1Kings 19:19-21, GNB). He was willing to serve others and fulfill God’s assignment for his life.

When Elijah was about to be taken away by God, Elisha saw the possibility of it and desired a double portion of the anointing of God upon Elijah. Despite all the discouragement from the other followers of Elijah and even Elijah himself, Elisha pressed on faithfully until he received this anointing, (2Kings 2). He valued spiritual things and he had faith to receive spiritual things.

Our text above shows us how Elisha was calm and confident, though he was being surrounded by the Syrian army because he was seeing something beyond the physical. He was aware of God’s abundant provision available to him in that situation and he knew how to pray to activate their manifestation.

Prayer:
Father, make me more conscious of your abundance. I desire to serve and fulfill your assignment for my life.
