The Turning Point
2 Corinthians 4:15-18
“For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
God wants us to have a different perspective and attitude to the things that we go through, especially when it comes to temptations, trials and challenges. Everything we go through works out together for our good. However, our perspective and attitude greatly determine whether we actually experience the good that is intended to emerge from our experiences. Had Joseph remained discouraged by all that he went through; had he decided to forget God or stop working diligently and give in to the pressures or temptations, it is possible that he would have never become the Prime Minister of Egypt. Joseph’s decision to have a different perspective and attitude to all he was going through was the turning point in his life.
Our text above shows us something we can do to experience this turning point. It reminds us that our light affliction works out for us an eternal weight of glory as we choose not to focus on what is seen physically (our experience at the moment) but on that which is unseen (God’s word and promises to us). Jesus Himself did not focus on the suffering and pain of the cross. Rather, He focused on the joy that was set before Him (Heb.12:2). You must be willing to turn your focus and attention from what you are going through to the glory and promises of God that will be made manifest in your life from that situation. Psalms 27:13 says, “I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” Cast your care upon the Lord and receive His word and promises for your life. You can do this in the place of prayer. Pray in the Spirit and declare God’s word and promises over your life until what God is saying to you is more real to you than what you are facing.
Action Point:
Pray in the Spirit and declare God’s word and promises over your life. Ask God to help you to always focus on His word and promises.
