The Victory of Our Death with Christ

Colossians 3:1-6 (NIV)
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.

Our consciousness and understanding of our death with Christ is central and key to our entire lives and walk with God. In Romans 6:3, 7 & 8, we see that ‘by our baptism into Christ, we were baptized into His death. By this death, we are free from sin. Because we died with Christ, now we also live with Him.’ Jesus did not only die for us, we also died with Him on the cross. Because we died with Christ, we are dead and and need to realize and acknowledge this truth. Romans 6:11b (NIV) implores us to “count (ourselves) dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.” Remind yourself that you are dead until you accept it as your reality.

Our death with Christ terminated some realities for us and initiated a whole new realities. Everything that pertains to Adam ended and everything that pertains to Christ became activated in your life. Our death with Christ is our victory and freedom. By our death with Christ, we now have victory over sin and every evil of life. By our death with Christ, we were raised up with Him and we are now seated together in Him in Heavenly places (Eph.2:6). Understanding the import of our death with Christ activates the resurrection power of God in our lives.

We can only walk in newness of life when we realize that our old and former life ended when we died with Christ on the cross (Rom.6:4). Until we realize that we are dead. We cannot put to death the deeds of the flesh. We are not trying to die to the flesh. We are dead. Christ put our former life to death as we died with Him on the cross. As we live according to the leading of the Spirit (our new life) we will have more and more victory over the flesh (Gal.5:16, Rom.8:13)

Prayer:
I thank you, Heavenly Father, that I am forever dead to sin and forever alive to Christ because I died with Christ on the cross. I am free and victorious!
