THE WISDOM AND POWER OF THE MESSAGE OF THE CROSS

1Corinthians 1:18, 22-24 (NKJV)

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

The cross of Jesus is the center of our lives and walk with God. It is the utmost sign and proof of God’s great love for us. The cross of Jesus refers to all that Jesus did to forgive all our sins, to save and redeem us and qualify us to experience God’s glory, power and blessings in all areas of our lives. All that Jesus did and went through on the cross did not look very attractive or powerful, but in them lies all of the wisdom, blessings, glory and power of God for us, (Isa.53). It is however sad that the eyes of many are blinded to the wisdom, power and glory of God in the message of the cross of Christ, (2Cor.4:3-4).

Like the Jews and the Greeks in our text above, what many are looking for when they hear or study God’s word is ‘signs’ or what they need to do, while some others are looking for ‘wisdom’ or something that sounds very deep or intelligent. But what God wants from us is to hear and believe what Jesus has done. It is in doing this that we are blessed, transformed, healed, set free, anointed and become everything that God wants us to be. The Gospel of Christ is the power of God, (Rom.1:16). The Gospel of Christ is about the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, (1Cor.15:1-4). It is as we hear what Jesus has done that we are empowered to receive, know and do God’s will for our lives. Paul calls this the unsearchable riches of Christ, (Eph.3:8).

Prayer:
I thank you Dear Father, for all that Jesus did for me by His suffering and death on the cross. Fill my heart with more of this truth.
