The Wisdom of Esther
Esther 2: 12 – 13, 15 & 17 (GNB)
The regular beauty treatment for the women lasted a year — ….. When she went from the harem to the palace, she could wear whatever she wanted. “The time came for Esther to go to the king. …… When her turn came, she wore just what Hegai, the eunuch in charge of the harem, advised her to wear. The king liked her more than any of the other women …. He placed the royal crown on her head and made her queen …..
When the king of Shushan wanted to choose a new queen, some ladies from the land were selected to go through a beautification process in order to prepare them to come before the king so he could make his choice. During this beautification process, these ladies had the opportunity to wear whatever they wanted to wear. According to history, these ladies also had the privilege to keep whatever they chose to wear, whether they were chosen as queen or not.
You can imagine that some of them prospects deemed this an opportunity to amass some wealth for themselves, but this was not Esther’s mindset at all. Esther did not wear what she may have chosen to wear. Rather, she wore what the official in charge of them (Hegai) advised her to wear. She trusted his judgement because as the person in charge of the women in the palace, Hegai knew what would be appealing to the king. As a result, Esther was chosen as queen.
As a believer, are you using your time on earth to amass wealth for yourself or to do whatever you like, or are you allowing the Holy Spirit who is in charge of the church right now to lead and cause you to do that which God longs for you to do? Jesus died for us so that we would live for Him (2 Cor. 5:15). Are you living your life for Jesus or for yourself.
Prayer:
My life belongs to you, dear Lord. I want to do your will and please you with my life. Lead me by your Spirit to live for you.
Bible Reading in one plan:
