THE WISDOM OF THE OLD AND THE STRENGTH OF THE YOUNG
Proverbs 20:28-29 (KJV, TPT)
Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy. The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the gray head. *Good leadership is built on love and truth, for kindness and integrity are what keep leaders in their position of trust. We admire the young for their strength and beauty, but the dignity of the old is their wisdom.
The strength of the youth is not more important than the wisdom of the old and the wisdom of the old is not more important than the strength of the youth. Both are very important to God. We need a good merger of both in our families, organizations, the church and the nation.

Moses and Joshua are good examples of the importance of this merger. Joshua followed and served Moses faithfully, and there were times that after Moses talked with God and left the Tabernacle, Joshua stayed back in the Tabernacle, (Exo.33:11). Before Moses died, the Bible says, “And Joshua…was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses,” (Deut.34:9). As a result of the good relationship between Moses and Joshua, there was a good transfer of legacy and leadership from one generation to another.
Eli helped Samuel understand and respond to the call of God upon his life, (1Sam.3:8-11). The old should not envy, despise and fight the young like Saul did to David (1Sam.18:6-11) and the young should not despise the wisdom of the old like Rehoboam did when he became king, (1Kings 12:6-16).
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we pray for a greater unity and understanding between the young and the old.
